Minister of Culture Ane Halsboe-Jørgensen has appointed CO:PLAY's Heidi Højmark Helveg to the Media Responsibility Committee, which will consist of 19 members with a wide range of expertise. Specifically, they will consider the future role of the Press Council and how to establish a media ombudsman who can take up cases and contribute to the public debate. The committee will also examine how bloggers and influencers can be held more accountable for the content they publish and disseminate. The committee will also look at ways to make it easier and smoother for citizens who are victims of digital defamation to get redress and compensation.

"It has been over 35 years since the last Media Responsibility Committee was established and the current Media Responsibility Act dates from 1990. I look forward to contributing my experience in examining the liability system of the media, traditional as well as other disseminators of news and opinion. In today's media reality, where today's newspaper is considerably smaller than it was when the current law was written, there are dilemmas and themes that deserve the broad representation and scrutiny that the mandate provides", says lawyer Heidi Højmark Helveg.
